We currently have a total of 13 pigs at the sanctuary. 12 mini pigs and 1 farm pig. Each pig has a story.

This girl was the first pig that started it all. She is currently the oldest and wisest pig of the herd, Kohks was born in June 2017 and is currently 8 years old. She came from a ranch near PG that was selling 10 week old piglets. She is a classic black mini pig who has a lot of features similar to the original Vietnamese Pot Belly Pig. Kohkos is the Cree word meaning pig, a name I chose because it was one of the many Cree words my father taught me growing up. As an only pig, she was raised in the house just like a dog or a cat. She napped on the couch, loved showers and even slept in the bed with our whole family. She can open a fridge or pantry door faster than anyone I know.

The first Kunekune addition to the herd, Mowgs was born in June 2019. At that time Kunekune pigs were hard to find in BC. Mowgli’s parents were brought to Canada by their American owner years before Mowgli was born. All the other piglets were purchased and Mowgli remained unwanted due to uncertainty of his breeding abilities. He came to us in a last chance effort to ensure he didn’t become someone’s food. Mowgli has the sweetest disposition and is often a great pig when it comes to meeting younger children. He loves car rides and is a trouble maker, often turning the music up, changing radio stations, messing with the heat or air conditioning and turning on the windshield wipers.

Bonk came to us in May 2021 after being found in need of medical attention. He was 1 week old and much smaller than the other piglets, Baby Bonk was almost non-responsive, his one eyeball was protruding out of his socket, and the farmer wasn’t sure if he would live. After a day or two, Bonk was surrendered to us, he received immediate surgery and was able to make a full recovery. He is fully blind in one eye and has partial vision in the other eye. Due to the trauma to his head, Bonk is fully deaf. He uses his other senses to make his way through life. Bonk received his name as a piglet due to the fact that he would walk into everything and I would say, “Oh,.. bonk”

Petunia came to us in June 2023. We received a phone call from a concerned person who said there was a pig at the rest stop near Hixon, BC. We drove out to the rest stop and there she was, hustling people for food. After visiting nearby properties, we were unable to find her owners. Member’s of the community helped us catch her and deliver her to our home. We searched for her owners, but no one claimed her. Petunia was a very popular girl, making live appearances on the news all the way to Ontario. She is one of our smallest pigs, who adapted very well with the herd. Petuna is a gentle, sweet girl who was always happy to lay on a dog bed in the house and nap.

This fella was rescued in February 2023 from Green Lake, BC. Lil Guy had escaped and lived in the wilderness for over a week before returning to look for food or the other pigs. We were told that his fellow pigs were taken away and slaughtered. They did not want the same outcome for him. Lil Guy lucked out and ended up here. After fighting pneumonia twice, he is finally healthy and happy. Due to his past, he is still afraid of humans and will not let us pet him. We guess him to be 3-4 years old.

Tank came to us in the fall of 2023 because his pig friend had passed away and he was living alone. His previous owner tried to rehome him without any luck. Tank is approximately 5 years old and never had the chance to bond with humans and is still very afraid of us when we get too close. He immediately bonded with Lil Guy, living together for some time before joining the rest of the herd. Tank has done well joining the other pigs here at the sanctuary. For a large fella, he has always been less dominant in the herd.

Big Red was seen wandering along the highway near Clinton, BC for over a week before finding a home where the occupant began feeding him. Upon searching for his owners, it became apparent that he was only seen as a food source. The home owner did not want him to be slaughtered. We drove down to pick him up and he joined us in October 2023. Big Red is a farm pig and weighs over 350lbs. He is our bossy boy who likes to keep everyone in line. We believe him to be 2-3 years old.

Moe was sold as a proven breeder, but did not fulfill his duties at his new farm. He came to us after not being worth much as a breeder. Moe would have become food if he was given away or sold online. Moe is a Kunekune, which are known as a delicacy amongst many humans these days. Moe is 6 years old and has the worst manners of all the pigs. However, he has the cutest face that only a momma could love. Moe is very set on remaining top hog of the herd, often fighting with Big Red. He even tries to boss me around at times.

Ellie came to the Tickled Pig in January 2024 as a boarding situation. Her previous mom of 5 years had owned Ellie as a single pig. We were asked to care for her for a few months. Ellie May took her time adjusting to the herd but eventually fit in like it was meant to be. After a couple attempts to have her owner pick her up, it became apparent that Ellie Bean was going to be a permanent resident at the sanctuary. Elles is always up to no good, her favourite past time is to get through the fence and come hang out in our front yard. She loves people almost as much as she loves scratches and belly rubs.

Lucy arrived with her sister Lily in March 2025. Lucy is 8 years old. She is very people friendly and loves food, almost eating my fingers every time I feed her. When she arrived, she was very reluctant to let us pet her. Over the summer she started coming to us for attention and enjoys belly rubs.. She came to us fussy about what she eats, but has learned to gobble up almost anything you give her. Lucy has clearly been top hog and has started to assert her dominance in the herd. She is much smaller than the other pigs, but doesn’t let that stop her from doing what she wants.

Lily arrived with her sister Lucy in March 2025. Lilly is 3 years old. She has a strong bond with her sister and often won’t come close enough to be pet. Lily came from a loving family who had the chance to do some travelling. Since her arrival, she has taken on a liking to many differing vegetables and fruits.

Tater Tott came to us from an unhealthy situation in 2018. He was badly suffering from mange and continued to have health issues his whole life. After many years of hip issues and chronic pain, Tate was laid to rest in the summer of 2024 when the simple task of walking was too painful. Tater is buried at PG Pet Memorial with Rupert.
Rupert spent his first few months living in a guinea pig cage being underfed. He was then rehomed and spent a short time living in a drug house. He was rescued and came to us in 2020. Sadly, Rupert was the only pig of our herd who did not make it through erysipelas. He passed away in 2024 and is buried with Tate at PG Pet Memorial.
